We had such a good time in the Texas Hill Country!
We traveled to Fredericksburg Texas in our Motorhome using the back roads instead of the Interstates/highways. It was such a joy seeing the many rivers, ranches and small towns as we travel using state highway 67/ 281. This new way that we have found may have been a little bit slower, but we found it too be more enjoyable. We traveled through Glen Rose, Lampasas and Marble Falls. We were able to view the Trinity River, the Brazos River and the Colorado River and I really love bridges. The town of Marble Falls was so beautiful with the Colorado River flowing through we found this to be the one that has stuck in our heads, and we want to go back and visit and spend more time.
The Beautiful Colorado River
As we close in on our destination Fredericksburg, Texas we notice how the terrain is changing and how the scenery is getting rocky and rustic. Beautiful Ranches are appearing at every turn, and we must be entering wine country. Wineries are popping up everywhere and they are beautiful and well cared for. I wish I loved wine or might I say wine does not love me.
We arrive in Fredericksburg, Texas at the Bending Oaks Rv Campground on Texas 290. We are greeted with the Texas Southern hospitality and are guided to our Rv parking spot. The campground is rustic with a Texas charm, and it has beautiful huge Live Oaks. We are so happy with our spot; I think we have some of the best Live Oaks on the property.
At the bending Oaks Rv Campground there is a group of Longhorns at the back of the property that will entertain you. The campground also has Chickens up by the resident’s home and offer fresh eggs every morning.
Luckenbach is just a few miles to the south from Bending Oak Rv. I have often heard people say they could not find Luckenbach and they were looking for a town, but Luckenbach is a small community tucked back behind a thicket of Live Oaks. They now have a huge sign with an arrow pointing toward the town/community. The town Luckenbach is very spiritual. It was the place that many musicians would gather and play and perform for free. It is famous for the musicians Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker and the Boys. You can always feel their presents at Luckenbach, Texas.
Fredericksburg is known for its many wineries throughout the area. You can often wine sample your way through Fredericksburg, but I have to say that the food through town is fantastic. Fredericksburg is a city in central Texas known for German heritage. There are many German restaurants and German dishes that you will find anywhere in the city. But do not miss out on the fantastic famous BBQ, Mexican food and Texas fine dining. The shopping is also fantastic, you find almost anything in this town. There is a National Museum of the Pacific War and WWII exhibits. This museum is very emotional and has videos and displays from Pearl Harbor attack to end of the surrender the Japanese. There is a very good video on this museum on our youtube channel you may like.
